How to Calculate BMI?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple calculation that uses a person’s height and weight to assess whether they are underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese. The formula for BMI is:
BMI = Weight in kilograms (kg) / Height in meters²
Alternatively, if you are using pounds and inches, the formula is:
BMI = Weight in pounds (lbs) × 703 / Height in inches²
BMI Categories
- Underweight: BMI < 18.5
- Normal weight: BMI 18.5–24.9
- Overweight: BMI 25–29.9
- Obese: BMI ≥ 30
